If you’re searching for answers about the morning-after pill, you’re not alone. Many women wonder: Is it the same as an abortion?

The short answer is no: the morning-after pill is not the same as an abortion pill.

The morning-after pill (like Plan B® or ella®) is a form of emergency contraception. It is designed to work primarily by delaying or preventing ovulation (the release of an egg).

Abortion pills, on the other hand, are taken after a pregnancy has already been confirmed. They are designed to end an existing pregnancy. The abortion pill is only FDA approved up to 10 weeks of pregnancy.

If it is more than 3-5 days since you’ve had sex, had a positive pregnancy test, or pregnancy symptoms, it’s time to talk about your pregnancy options

How We Can Help

Because every situation is different, it’s important to know exactly where you stand. An ultrasound is the only way to confirm:

  • Whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus

  • How far along you are (gestational age)

  • Whether the pregnancy is progressing

Online calculators and guesswork can’t give you these answers - and they matter for your health and safety.

If you think you might be pregnant or are considering abortion, Options for Women is here to provide clear, factual information in a pressure-free environment. We do not provide termination services or profit from your decision, and we’re committed to helping you understand all your options in Rochester, NH.

Schedule a confidential appointment today for abortion education and a free ultrasound to confirm location and how far along you are. You deserve answers before making a decision.
