Common Reasons Someone May Be Ineligible

  • Gestational age: Approved by the FDA only up to 10 weeks (70 days) of pregnancy

  • Limited access to emergency care: Follow-up and emergency care must be available

  • IUD in place: Must be removed before taking abortion pills

  • Ectopic pregnancies: Cannot be treated with abortion pills; requires immediate care (only diagnosed by ultrasound)

  • Bleeding or clotting disorders: Increased risk of complications

  • Allergy to abortion pill medications

  • Use of blood thinners, use of steroids, adrenal gland disorders, porphyria, and other autoimmune or genetic disorders

At Your Appointment, We Cover

If any of these apply, or if you’re unsure, reach out today. When you come in, our medical team focuses on your safety, clarity, and peace of mind. During your appointment, we’ll review:

  • Your medical history & health conditions

To identify any factors that could make the abortion pill unsafe or ineffective

  • Ultrasound exam

To confirm the pregnancy is in the uterus and not ectopic, and to estimate how far along you are

  • Rh factor testing

To determine whether you may need a RhoGAM® injection to protect future pregnancies

  • IUD information

If you have an IUD in place, it must be removed before abortion pills can be used

  • STD testing information

Untreated sexually transmitted infections can increase the risk of complications

  • What to expect

Clear education on the process, possible side effects, recovery, and warning signs to watch for

  • If plans change or pills fail

Information about next steps if the abortion pill does not work, or if you take the first pill and then decide not to continue

If you’re unsure about eligibility or just want accurate medical information, we’re here to help you understand your options - without pressure or judgment. Please note that while we do not perform or refer for abortion services, we can give you the answers you need to make a safe, informed decision.
